BARAGA, MI (AP)-- A Native American tribal community in the U.P. is getting $800,000 from the federal government to remove and prevent mold in homes.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said Monday that the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community in Baraga would receive the funding. The grant will go toward mold remediation including the use of construction materials and techniques known to resist mold, and educating residents on how to prevent it.
The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community is among 18 tribal community communities in 13 states to share $12.4 million in grants. The funds are being given out through the Indian Community Development Block Grant program.
