Hearing postponed for Upper Peninsula biomass power plant

L'ANSE, MI (AP)--   State regulators have postponed a public hearing on a draft renewable operating permit for an Upper Peninsula biomass power plant.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality had scheduled the hearing for Oct. 29. It was to deal with a permit for L'Anse Warden Electric Company LLC in Baraga County.

The DEQ says the company's latest emissions tests indicate it might be unable to comply with air quality regulations. Department officials say they can't move ahead with the permit under those circumstances.

The department says it will conduct further review of final emissions testing data and may need to develop a compliance plan.

A new date for the public hearing will be announced later.
