Gladstone home damaged in fire

GLADSTONE, MI--   Fire has damaged a Gladstone house.

Public Safety officers were called Sunday around 2:30 p.m. to 1214 Willow Road and saw smoke and flames coming through the kitchen windows.

The fire was contained to the kitchen, bath, and entry area, but there was heavy smoke and water damage throughout the home.

Officials believe the fire started when a space heater being used to thaw frozen pipes in the kitchen was placed too close to flammable materials.

No one was in the home at the time of the fire.  The owner lives in Wisconsin.

Officers say the house had been undergoing renovations.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
