LANSING, MI (AP)-- The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says no hunting-related deaths were reported during the state's 2015 hunting seasons.
It was the second year in a row without a fatality from a weapon.
The state says 13 incidents involving injuries were reported last year, up from 10 in 2014. More than 60 percent of the 2015 injuries resulted from self-inflicted gunshots. Six of the 13 injuries were deer hunters.
There was one Michigan hunting death in 2013.
The state says the overall trend toward fewer fatalities and injuries started in 1988 when completion of a hunter education class became mandatory for first-time hunters born after Jan. 1, 1960.
Since 1988, more than 600,000 hunters have completed hunter education classes.
