Body of missing Calumet man found

CALUMET TOWNSHIP, MI--   A man reported missing from a Calumet group home has been found dead.

Officials say the body of Joseph Kopp, 44, was found in Calumet Township Tuesday around 4:30 p.m. by the Swedetown Ski Trails.  A man walking his dog happened upon Kopp’s body by a tent near one of the trails.

Kopp was reported missing from the Westside Group Home April 4.  He had apparently been camping in the woods since then.

Officials don’t know the cause of death.  An autopsy will be performed, but foul play is not suspected.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
