From trip co-traveler Sarah Stanley:
Lucca (visiting on day 4 of our trip) is known to date back to 218 B.C. It’s known for its medieval and Renaissance architecture, beautiful historic churches, and cobblestone streets that are free of traffic and weave their way through the historic buildings. Its most notable feature is the 16th century walls that still encircle the city, on which people may walk, bike, or maybe sit back and enjoy a gelato while taking in the sights of this historic city and beautiful surrounding countryside. Lucca looks to be the quintessential peaceful, picturesque Tuscan city. Exactly the type of place I picture in my mind when thinking “Tuscany.”
