MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI (AP)-- Just in time for the July Fourth holiday, three life-saving stations have been built at Little Presque Isle.
The stations at the recreation area are equipped with life jackets and rings. Doug Barry of the Department of Natural Resources says they've already made a difference.
He says he received an email from a man who used a life jacket last weekend when a sudden storm produced high waves.
Several members of area Lions clubs built the stations, just a few weeks after two people drowned in the area. Gary Gustafson, chairman of the Marquette waterfront safety task force, says it was an "awesome display of teamwork."
