Cleaning up in Gogebic County

abc10up.com

WAKEFIELD, MI--   Gogebic County officials are making headway in cleaning up and repairing areas hit by severe storms earlier this week.

There are still some downed trees in Wakefield, but power has been restored to most residents.  Xcel Energy workers continue to make repairs to power lines and poles.

Emergency personnel evacuated five residents from Little Girls Point, and the remaining 90 or so residents chose to stay.  Lake Road remains closed from Upper Powers Road to the state line. The Gogebic County Road Commission continues to work on Lake Road, Powers Road, and Brace Road to gain access to residents at Little Girls Point.

No injuries have been reported.

Sunday lake is still closed to boating traffic, but the beach is open as long as debris stays off the sand.

Michigan State Police, Gogebic County Search and Rescue, the U.S. Coast Guard, Victim Services, the Red Cross, DNR, and the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission are assisting in the incident.
