MARQUETTE, MI-- AARP is offering free tax preparation for low- and moderate-income individuals and families in the Upper Peninsula.
Rich Brich is the Marquette-area coordinator for the AARP Tax-Aide program. He says residents who meet certain criteria can get their state and federal taxes done—and e-filed—for free.
Brich notes there are some returns they can’t do, like if the taxpayer has a business or if the return is more than $25,000.
“We are trained by the IRS, so that we do know the tax law, but we aren’t CPAs. So we do have some things that limit what we can do,” he says.
Help is available in Marquette, Gwinn, Escanaba, Iron Mountain, Houghton, Munising, Newberry, and St. Ignace.
