Fire damages Ironwood house

IRONWOOD, MI--   A home in Ironwood suffered extensive damage from a fire over the weekend.

WLUC-TV says it broke out Saturday around 9 p.m. on the 300 block of East Houk Street.  The fire apparently started at an outlet in the kitchen and spread to the second floor and attic.  Officials say it was likely caused by a space heater and an extension cord not rated to support its operation.

The house received fire, smoke, and water damage.  The homeowner was taken to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital, checked out for smoke inhalation, and later released.

The fire remains under investigation.
