Pets killed in Ontonagon house fire

ONTONAGON, MI--   Two cats were lost in a house fire in Ontonagon over the weekend.

The Village Fire Department was called Saturday around 6:45 p.m. to the residence on Rockland Road after neighbors spotted the fire.

The homeowner wasn’t in the house at the time.

Officials say the fire started in the kitchen and was contained to that area, but the rest of the home sustained extensive smoke and water damage.

The Rockland Fire Department and Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
