RUDYARD TOWNSHIP, MI-- Several law enforcement agencies came together to find a missing child in Chippewa County Friday.
State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post were dispatched around 7:45 p.m. on a report that an 11-year-old child with autism was missing from a Rudyard Township residence. The boy was wearing a shirt and pants, but no jacket.
His parents said he walked away from the house and couldn’t be found in the woods and fields around the residence. Troopers and a K-9 unit searched the area, while U.S. Border Patrol units and the Department of Natural Resources searched area roads. The Michigan State Police Aviation Unit responded with a helicopter.
Around 10:40 p.m. the child was found by a K-9 unit in a hunting cabin about a mile from his home. He was cold and wet but otherwise in good health. No medical treatment was sought.
