U.P. project benefits from USDA loan

HOUGHTON, MI--   A U.P. infrastructure project is getting money from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development for upgrades.

The North Houghton County Water and Sewage Authority will receive a $900,000 loan. The money will be used to continue work on improving the wastewater and sewer collection and treatment system.

The authority provides sewer service to Calumet Township, Osceola Township, the Village of Calumet, and the Village of Laurium. The project serves 2,555 residential and 204 commercial customers.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
