UPDATE: Autopsy doesn't immediately reveal cause of death for body found in Ishpeming

UPDATE, 7/24 12:30 pm:   The Ishpeming Police Department has released the name of the victim. She is identified as Kayla Jean Gilstorff, 26, of Ishpeming.

Anyone who may have had contact with Kayla after Saturday, July 14, is asked to call Ishpeming Police at 486-4416.

Officers await lab results from UPHS-Marquette and the results of evidence processed by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

ISHPEMING, MI--   No cause of death has yet been determined for a woman whose body was found in an Ishpeming field Friday. 

City Police say an autopsy was performed at UPHS-Marquette Monday, and while the manner of death was not identified, officials say nothing suspicious was found.

Police believe they know the identity of the woman, but are waiting for dental record verification before they release a name. Officers have been in contact with the family of the victim since Friday.

Anyone who saw suspicious activity near the Ishpeming playgrounds or the area of West Empire near Lake Bancroft is asked to call police at 486-4416. The time frame is between Saturday, July 14 and Friday, July 20.

The investigation continues, and more information will be released as it becomes available.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
