Rainfall helps UPPCO produce hydroelectric power

MARQUETTE, MI--   Upper Peninsula Power Company officials say increased hydroelectric generation has lowered bills for customers.

Vice President of Business Development and Communication, Brett French, says recent rainfall resulted in the production of 30 percent more energy this fall than typically seen on a ten-year average. He says the additional renewable energy equates to lower bills and less of a dependence on fossil fuels.

UPPCO owns and operates seven hydroelectric dams along the Dead, Escanaba, Ontonagon and Sturgeon Rivers. They produce about 20 percent of the company’s energy requirements during the year.
