You won't be stopped for driving around, police say

WAKEFIELD, MI--   Michigan State Police are trying to quash rumors about police making random traffic stops during the “stay at home” order.

Troopers say rumors have been spreading on social media that officers are randomly stopping vehicles to see if they have a valid reason for being out of the house.

MSP District 8 Commander Captain John Halpin says that isn’t true. He believes the rumor may have started due to essential businesses asking their employers to carry letters stating they’re allowed to drive into work. He says that would only be necessary if the governor had issued a “shelter in place” order.

Officials say the order doesn’t even restrict residents from just going out for a drive.
