Bodies of missing boaters found

KEWEENAW BAY — The search for two boaters missing on Keweenaw Bay since Saturday afternoon has ended. According to the Daily Mining Gazette, the Michigan State Police Marine Services Unit yesterday (Monday) afternoon found the capsized boat and the bodies of both missing people in an area nearly 220 feet in depth.

The 21-foot boat capsized during the Keweenaw Bay Classic Fishing Tournament, and another boat passing by was able to save three other fishermen. After a weekend long search by the U.S. Coast Guard and MSP divers, the MSP unit went out again Monday morning to resume the search.

The victims’ families have been notified; however, no names will be released.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office and Baraga County Sheriff’s Office are also assisting in the search.
