Fuel spilled in Republic accident

REPUBLIC TOWNSHIP, MI--   Diesel fuel had to cleaned up from the scene of a two-vehicle crash in Marquette County Sunday.

The Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened around 5 p.m. on M-95 near River Road in Republic Township.  A Ford pickup driven by a 40-year-old Republic man was westbound on River Road when he disregarded a stop sign at M-95.  He drove into the path of a northbound tractor-trailer driven by a 64-year-old Ashland, Wisconsin man.

The trailer’s fuel tank was damaged and leaked diesel at the scene.  Trimedia Environmental and Engineering was called to clean up the spill.

The driver of the pickup refused medical treatment and was cited for disregarding a stop sign.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
