Drummond Island explosion kills woman

DRUMMOND ISLAND, MI--   A house explosion in the Eastern Upper Peninsula has claimed the life of one person.  

State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post report an explosion was felt just before 9 a.m. Monday on Drummond Island.  After smoke was observed the island fire department was called to a residence on South Sturgeon Bay Road and found a house destroyed and on fire. 

Troopers say the body of a woman was found in the debris.  An identity has not been released. 

The State Fire Marshal has been called to determine the cause of the explosion.    

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
