Rapid River driver crashes into vehicle on US-41 in Mathias Township

MATHIAS TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two people were injured in an Alger County traffic crash over the weekend.

Troopers from the Negaunee Post say the accident happened Saturday around noon on US-41 near M-67 in Mathias Township.  A southbound vehicle driven by Gary Lacombe, 68, of Zionsville, Indiana had slowed to turn left into a driveway when it was rear-ended by another southbound vehicle driven by Eugene Holmquist, 86, of Rapid River.

Both drivers were taken to Marquette General Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Both were wearing seat belts and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
