Escanaba man dies after four-wheeler breaks through the ice

ESCANABA, MI--   An Escanaba man has died after falling though the ice on Little Bay de Noc.

The Delta County Sheriff’s office says at about 8:45 Friday morning a fisherman spotted a collapsed ice shack on the ice and a four-wheeler that had broken through.

Sheriff's deputies say 66-year old David Breault was found under the water near the four wheeler. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Responding personnel say it appeared that a pressure crack had opened up on the ice resulting in very thin and unsafe conditions.

The Delta County Sheriff Department Search and Rescue and Dive Team, Gladstone Public Safety Hovercraft, and Escanaba Public Safety responded to the scene.
