Boys rescued from Presque Isle cliff base

MARQUETTE, MI--   Two teenagers had to be rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard after they climbed down a cliff at Presque Isle Park and couldn’t get back up.

The Marquette Fire Department was called Friday just after 11 p.m. on a report that the 14- and 17-year-old boys had descended 80 feet to the water’s edge, but because of darkness and inexperience couldn’t get out.

The fire department used lighting for the Coast Guard to find the location.  Officers were able to maneuver a boat close enough to pick up the teens.

The boys were wet and tired, but otherwise fine.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
