Failure to yield the cause of Sands crash

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Sands Township Monday.

Around 3:20 p.m. the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, and the Sands Fire Department were dispatched to M-553 near Ridge Road. Officials say Julian Beltz, 17, of Gwinn was northbound when he failed to yield for a vehicle stopping for a school bus. He struck a car driven by Jacqueline Clairmont, 39, of Gwinn.

Two occupants of Clairmont’s vehicle were taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of minor injuries.

Beltz was cited for failure to yield.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
