Motorcyclist dies on Mackinac Bridge

ST. IGNACE, MI--   A downstate man has been killed in a motorcycle accident on the Mackinac Bridge.

Michigan State Police from the St. Ignace Post say it happened Tuesday at about 6:50 p.m. They say Charles Chronowski, 57, of Macomb lost control of his motorcycle on the bridge and crashed. He was taken to Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace, where he was pronounced dead.

Chronowski was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. It’s unknown if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.

Troopers were assisted by the St. Ignace Police Department, Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office, Sault Tribal Police, Straits EMS, the St. Ignace Fire Department, and the Mackinac Bridge Authority.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
