4-vehicle crash in Baraga County construction zone

SPURR TOWNSHIP, MI— Multiple injuries were reported in a four-vehicle accident in Baraga County Tuesday.

Around 1:15 p.m. troopers from the Calumet Post responded to US-41 just north of Berry Road in Spurr Township.

Officials say the driver of a GMC Envoy was distracted at the beginning of a construction zone and failed to see vehicles stopped in front of them. The Envoy rear-ended a Chevy Cruze, pushing it into a Buick Verano. The Buick then hit a midsize truck, which left the scene before troopers arrived.

The driver and passenger of the Cruze were taken to Baraga County Memorial hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Everyone was wearing seat belts. Troopers say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
