Snowy conditions may have role in fatal Marquette accident

MARQUETTE, MI— A Marquette woman has been killed in a two-vehicle crash on M-553 near the Marquette city limit.

The Marquette Police Department says Thursday around 7:30 p.m. a Ford Fusion driven by a 70-year-old Marquette man was northbound when the driver lost control of the vehicle. It crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound Nissan Versa driven by a 65-year-old Marquette man.

The drivers, two passengers in the Ford and a passenger in the Nissan were taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment. The passenger in the Nissan—a 63-year-old Marquette woman—was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other four remain at the hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

Officers say snow was falling at the time of the crash and the road was snow-covered.

The accident remains under investigation.
