Brakes fail on delivery truck in Houghton, sending one to the hospital

HOUGHTON, MI— A Chassell man was injured in a single-vehicle accident in Houghton Monday.

City Police say a delivery truck driven by a 55-year-old Laurium man was northbound on Bridge Street around 3 p.m. when the brakes failed. The vehicle crossed US-41 and collided with a retaining wall.

The driver sought his own treatment. His passenger, a 45-year-old Chassell man, was taken to the hospital.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan Tech Public Safety and Police Services assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
