Marquette Police investigating fatal traffic crash

MARQUETTE, MI— One person was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash in Marquette Monday.

City Police were dispatched around 4:15 p.m. to US-41 just north of the Marquette Welcome Center.

Preliminary investigation shows a Toyota minivan driven by a 66-year-old Marquette woman was southbound when it crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a Freightliner box truck driven by a 50-year-old Marquette man.

The driver of the minivan was severely injured. She was taken to UPHS-Marquette, where she later died of her injuries. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
