They say a Chevy Equinox occupied by two Amasa residents was westbound on US-2 when it was hit head-on by a BMW passenger vehicle containing an Iron River man and a child.

The driver of the BMW—29-year-old Robert Trotta—was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was treated at Aspirus Hospital in Iron River and released.

The passenger in the Chevy Equinox was also taken to Aspirus Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Equinox was airlifted to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau, Wisconsin for further treatment.

The accident remains under investigation.
