MUNISING, MI— A Minnesota dog is lucky to be alive after it fell off a cliff at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Wednesday evening, a three-year-old dog named Dancer got off her leash and fell off a cliff near Miners Castle onto a ledge 60 feet below. After hours of searching the area, Dancer’s owners were unable to find her in the dark and were convinced she had not survived the fall.

Later that night, rangers received a report of a lost dog. The Superior High Angle Rescue Professionals, a local rope rescue team, were enlisted to recover the dog from the ledge the following morning.

Dancer was cold but alive. She was reunited with her family and is recovering well.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
