Mining tractor-trailer goes off the road in Marquette Township

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI— The driver of a mining truck was injured in a single-vehicle accident in Marquette Township Sunday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:35 a.m. to County Road 550 near Beagle Club Road. Deputies say a northbound M.J. VanDamme tractor-trailer went off the east side of the roadway.

The driver, a 60-year-old Big Bay resident, was taken to UPHS-Marquette with non-life-threatening injuries.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were Marquette Township Fire/EMS, UPHS EMS, Michigan State Police, NMU Public Safety, and Crossroads Towing.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
