Soo trooper saves worker from being crushed by drywall

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— A Michigan State Police trooper saved a worker who was trapped under 700 pounds of drywall in Sault Ste. Marie last week.

On Thursday, a 43-year-old man from Levering, Michigan was working alone at the Soo Post, which is undergoing construction. He was trying to transport large drywall sheets when they unexpectedly fell, trapping him underneath.

Trooper Paul Ferraro, who was inside the post at the time, heard the man’s faint cries for help and rushed outside.

Ferraro lifted the drywall sheets up enough for the trapped man to get out. Due to the trooper’s quick response, the worker escaped serious injury.

State Police say when working alone, whether at home or on the job, it’s important to prioritize safety. Before starting any project, plan your tasks carefully and identify potential hazards to ensure you are prepared for any challenges. Additionally, it may be a good idea to notify a friend or family

member about your work plans, including the expected duration and location. That way, someone will be aware of your activities and can check on you, if needed.
