Names of the victims of last week's fatal crash in Escanaba released

ESCANABA, MI— The names of those killed in a two-vehicle crash in Escanaba last week have been released.

It happened Thursday afternoon at the intersection of North Lincoln Road and Danforth Road. A southbound Dodge Ram truck pulling a snowmobile trailer struck a Subaru attempting to turn westbound onto Danforth Road.

The two occupants of the Subaru were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Escanaba Department of Public Safety has identified them as John William Wigand, 91, and Corrine Gertrude Wigand, 91, both of Wetmore.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Public Safety is working with Michigan State Police to gather more details about the incident.

“We extend or deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims during this incredibly difficult time,” the department said.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
