Two-vehicle crash kills three in Stephenson, WI

STEPHENSON, WI— Three people died in a Marinette County traffic crash Friday.

It happened around 9:22 p.m. on County Highway A at Moonshine Hill Road in the town of Stephenson. Daniel Mrotek, 60, of Berlin, Wisconsin was westbound on Moonshine Hill Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign. He struck a vehicle northbound on County Highway A driven by Thomas Robe, 71, of Oak Creek.

Mrotek, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.

Robe and his passenger, Sharon Robe, 68, of Oak Creek, were also killed.

The crash remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Assisting at the scene were the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Village of Crivitz Police Department, Stephenson Fire Department, Twin Bridge Rescue, 180 Auto and Towing, and Tim Witt Chevrolet Towing.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
