Northern Advances to NCAA Elite Eight

By Anthony Reynolds

Marquette, MI – The Northern Michigan University women's volleyball team will play their first match of the 2004 NCAA Division II Championship Tournament tomorrow. The Wildcats defeated Northwood University in the GLIAC Tournament finals for their eighth conference championship and a berth in the Elite Eight. Northern will play the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the first round. They will be lead by senior Aimee Dewitte, who was recently named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's All-Great Lakes and All-America teams.

The Wildcats have made the most appearances of any team in the field, appearing in 13 NCAA tournaments and reaching the finals eight times. This is Northern's first Elite Eight appearance since 1997.
