Marquette, MI – Northern Michigan University will continue to offer same-sex benefits to faculty members, despite the approval of Proposal 2 in November. Northern's Director of Communications, Cindy Paavola, says NMU will probably not be affected by Proposal 2 because public universities are autonomous entities of the state, and don't fall under Michigan's constitution. She says the university will continue offering the benefits until the state says otherwise. Paavola says that less than five faculty members take advantage of same-sex benefits in any given year.
