Bill to prevent gun makers from being sued passes Wisconsin Assembly

By Carla E. Kinder

Wisconsin – The Wisconsin State Assembly has passed a bill that would prevent gun manufacturers from being sued for shooting deaths or injuries. The bill, sponsored by Representative Mark Pettis, will proceed to the state Senate. The bill also protects firing-range owners and firearm distributors. The only provision that would allow suing a manufacturer is if the gun is defective. Governor Jim Doyle says that if the bill reaches his desk he will veto it. The issue is also being debated at the federal level.
