Munising voters to consider bond issue

Munising, MI – It will be up to Munising voters to decide whether the city will borrow $12.4 million for infrastructure improvements. City manager Doug Bovin says the project would improve sewer and water lines, renovate the wastewater treatment plant, and refurbish roads. But some residents want to stick to Munising's existing
18-year improvement plan, saying the city is already too far into debt. Bovin notes those who oppose the bonding issue haven't spoken directly with city officials about the situation. Bovin says aside from the fact that the new plan would accomplish twice as much as the 18-year plan, it would also reduce resident taxes by a minimum of 4.5 mils. He says if the bonding is approved, the city will proceed with full engineering. If it isn't, the project would be set back by at least one year. The referendum will be held November 8.
