Manistique, MI – The future of Manistique's elementary school now hinges on a bond issue to be decided this November. The Lakeside Elementary School building was severely damaged in an electrical fire last March, forcing the district to relocate the students to other facilities. School board president Steve Latterman says if the proposed 2.35 millage hike is approved, a new building could be built utilizing community input on it's design. If passed, the bond would generate nearly $10 million, and would add to the $1.5 million in insurance money. Latterman says he hopes the new school could house preschool through fifth grade.
