USOEC's summer Olympians compete in Marquette next week

By Anthony Reynolds

Marquette, MI – Olympic short track speedskaters Anthony Lobello and Kim Derrick aren't the only USOEC resident athletes in competition this month. Members of the summer Olympic sport teams will be competing in the 2nd Annual Olympic Challenge next Monday in the Superior Dome.

USOEC media coordinator Julee Basal says the format of the boxing, Greco-Roman wrestling, women's freestyle wrestling, and weightlifting competition has changed since last year. Whereas the first Olympic Challenge pitted the resident athletes against themselves, this year several national and international teams will compete in the contest.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the families of Toni Copeland and Cass Huckabee, who drowned in Lake Superior last fall. It begins Monday evening at 7:00 in the Dome.
