Munising, MI – Police have released the name of the man who held a nurse at Munising Memorial Hospital hostage over the weekend. Officials say 47-year-old Donald Gatiss of Munising broke into the emergency room early Saturday morning with a rifle and pistol, and demanded narcotics. Officers negotiated with Gatiss for about four hours. The nurse was able to escape when he took some of the drugs and they took effect. Police then apprehended him. Gatiss is charged with Kidnapping, Armed Robbery, Carrying a Weapon with Unlawful Intent, Possession of an Unlawful Substance, and Felony Use of a Firearm. He remains lodged in the Alger County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
