Dickinson County landlords demand changes to rental housing ordinance

By Carla E. Kinder

Iron Mountain, MI – The Dickinson County Landlords Association has boycotted a request from the city of Iron Mountain to register under a new rental housing ordinance. Roy Polich, the association's attorney, says its members feel that the ordinance violates the privacy of tenants, and that current regulations are adequate. Iron Mountain City Manager John Marquart says the city has asked the association to be more specific in their concerns and the city will proceed with amending the ordinance. Marquart says similar ordinances have been in place throughout the state and have withstood legal challenges. He says the city has never had an ordinance dealing with rental property standards in the past.
