Iron County Commissioners face lawsuit over sale of land parcel

By Carla E. Kinder

Iron County, MI – Three Iron County residents have brought a suit against the Board of Commissioners regarding a parcel of land located along the Paint River. Longtime resident Robert Rivera says the land belongs to the Iron County Road Commission and that the commissioners would be selling it illegally. He counters that rather than selling the land for development to increase the county's tax base, the land should be used for parks and recreation. Rivera says the piece of land is one of few recreational areas that is easily accessible to handicapped people. He says the road commission has filed a motion of support and a hearing is scheduled for June 28th at Iron County Courthouse in Crystal Falls.
