Moose crashes NMU window

By Nicole Walton

Marquette, MI – A bull moose was looking for a mate, not a study partner, when it crashed through a window on Northern Michigan University's campus Tuesday night. Captain Jeff Mincheff of NMU's Public Safety Department says the incident occurred around 7:45 in the laundry room of Magers Hall. He says the moose crossed Presque Isle Avenue right in front of a city police car, crossed into a residential area, knocked down a couple of fences, and ended up on campus. The moose then saw it's reflection in the laundry room window and ran at it. The window broke, but the animal didn't go all the way through. Students and police were able to chase the moose north into the woods. Area moose are currently in their rutting season, and are often more aggressive than usual. Mincheff says he's seen a bear on campus before, but never a moose. No one was injured in the incident.
