Ferry service from Menominee to Sturgeon Bay in the works

By Associated Press

Menominee, MI – A new ferry service from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin to Menominee could be operational as early as May 2007. Menominee businessman Robert Ruleau is investing $2 million in the ferry line. Ruleau owns a commercial fishing operation and the dock in Menominee that the passenger ferries would use. Ferry service would be operational from May to October, with up to four round trips daily at the peak of the tourist season. The 16-mile trip across the bay would take about an hour and would cost $20 one-way and $35 round trip.
Another Michigan businessman, Brian McCaughrin, wants to run a car ferry line across Lake Michigan from Algoma to Frankfort. He says it will be at least a year before his plan takes off. Companies already in existence run car ferries from Milwaukee to Muskegon and from Manitowoc to Ludington.
