UNDATED – The Department of Natural Resources has reopened all State Forest campgrounds. Twenty campgrounds across Michigan were temporarily closed due to budget cuts, but a recent $500,000 appropriation to the Recreation and Trail Program has enabled the DNR to reopen them. They include nine State Forest campgrounds in the Gwinn, Newberry, and Shingleton Management Units.
Most sites will open mid-May, but some will require water well repairs. For more information and a list of sites, go to www.michigan.gov/dnr.
