UNDATED – The years-old battle over how many specialty license plates Michigan should offer motorists has resurfaced. The state senate passed bills this week that would expand the lineup to include plates celebrating the Detroit Tigers Red Wings Pistons and Lions. Others would support groups including Ducks Unlimited and Habitat for Humanity. Others would read, "In God We Trust," and "I believe." The legislation is heading to the house. But don't' plan on having the additional options anytime soon. Governor Jennifer Granholm 1st vetoed bills to expand the lineup in 2004, and a spokeswoman said Thursday she remains opposed to them. Some in law enforcement don't want more plate varieties, because it may make plates more difficult to quickly read.
