Healthcare reform debate in Wisconsin

By Associated Press

UNDATED – President Barack Obama's planned visit to Green Bay to push for health care reform is bringing up a familiar debate in Wisconsin. Obama and members of congress are considering how to pay for expanding coverage to the uninsured and what role the government should play in the marketplace. A universal health care plan approved by the Wisconsin senate 2 years ago generated intense debate over those questions. The plan failed, partly because of criticism over a payroll tax that would have paid for it. Senator Jon Erpenbach of Waunakee says the president's plan is similar to the so-called healthy Wisconsin plan. He says they both would use the government's power to cut costs and allow residents to choose from competing plans.
