Ontonagon, MI – The closure of an Ontonagon business means 182 people are losing their jobs. Smurfit-Stone Container is permanently closing, effective December 31st. Company officials say costs associated with the plant are outweighing its profitability. They stress the closure does not reflect upon employees' hard work and commitment.
Smurfit-Stone is also closing a plant in Missoula, Montana. The company filed for bakruptcy protection last January and expects to emerge from bankruptcy reorganization in the spring.
