KBIC member gets prison on sex abuse charge

By Nicole Walton

Marquette, MI – A member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community has been sentenced to prison on a sexual abuse charge. In December a jury found Eugene Rantanen, 22, of L'Anse guilty of sexually abusing a 14-year-old child at a residence on KBIC land when he was 18.

He's been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison and 10 years supervised release, and must register as a sex offender. Rantanen was acquitted of two counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse and two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor.
